How To Draw A Guitar

Today I am going to fulfill another reader request and teach you how to draw a guitar. To be honest, I never actually thought anyone had trouble drawing guitars… i.e. I didn't know they were a huge hurdle for artists! But, you have spoken, so let's get into it!

To start with, draw two large, slightly oblong circles. One on top of the other. This will become the body of the guitar. To keep the shape of your guitar true to life, draw the bottom circle a little bit wider than the top one.

Next, connect the two circles of your guitar together at the sides, and erase the middle line that divides them. You should now be left with something like a bean shape.

On top of your guitar, you need to draw the its neck. The neck of a guitar is essentially just a long rectangle that extends the strings, and gives you something to hold on to.

Draw the neck about the same length as the body of your guitar. At the top of the guitar's neck, you can see that I have drawn another bean shape that looks similar to the body of the guitar. This will be the head of the guitar which the tuning keys and strings attach to.

Next, we need to draw the sound hole of our guitar. This is just as simple as it sounds… a hole. So draw a circle that sits in the middle of the guitar, and slightly more towards the top.

You can also make a pick guard for your guitar, which is optional. Not every guitar comes with these, but if you choose to draw one, it is just a simple oval that is attached to the right half of the sound hole.

You're pretty much done at this stage. All that is left to do is add some strings and tuning keys to your guitar.

Draw three small ovals on each side of the head of your guitar, and then six strings that stretch from the tuning keys, to the bottom of the guitar.

As you can see in the image on the right, the strings end almost at the bottom of the guitar, and are held in place by a small plate which is just a simple rectangle.
