How To Draw A Jojo
Let's learn how to draw Joseph "JoJo" Joestar from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure today!
Joseph Joestar (ジョセフ・ジョースター Josefu Jōsutā) is the main protagonist of Sentou Chuuryuu – Battle Tendency, which is the second story arc of JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken series. He also appears as an ally in the third part Stardust Crusaders and in the fourth part Diamond is Unbreakable (Diamond wa Kudakenai).
Joseph is a natural-born Ripple user (an energy used in the ancient form of martial arts). He is also a Stand user (a visual manifestation of life energy, an entity psychically generated by its owner). His Stand is Hermit Purple, which manifests itself as multiple, purple, thorn-covered vines that spawn from Joseph's hands. The vines are strong enough to support his own weight and long enough to bind someone completely. He is the grandson of Jonathan Joestar, the main protagonist of the first arc, Phantom Blood. Having been brought up by his grandmother Erina and family friend Speedwagon, he developed a coarser and more rebellious attitude than that of his gentlemanly grandfather, but the character still has a noble heart. After his grandson Jotaro Kujo, Joseph is the second most recurring JoJo in the series (a nickname shared by each of the main protagonists of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, also each descendant from the Joestar Family). He is also the father of Josuke Higashikata, the protagonist of Diamond is Unbreakable.
He is an exuberant troublemaker, hotheaded and confrontational with an exceptional talent for trickery. He also has the uncanny ability to predict what his opponent will say next. Joseph meets the fantastic threats approaching him throughout his life with initiative and impressive ingenuity. He is battling Vampires, the Pillar Men (ancient race of humanoids, highly intelligent, extremely strong, and able to manipulate their bodies to a very fine degree) and malevolent Stand users. His appearance changes throughout the series as his character evolves. First he is a hotheaded, impetuous, a foul-mouthed and confrontational young man with perverted nature, who regularly taunts his enemies. He is playful person and prefers fooling around over having any responsibility. He has devotion to his family and friends. But he did develop into a strong, focused hero. Over time he has mellowed out considerably, having lost much of his aggression and laziness.
Thanks a lot to Bas Muller for request. ^_^
Step 1
As always all the blue and green lines are just construction lines and will be erased later so do not push on your pencil too much ^_^ I will try to be super efficient with the text so will only describe steps that require some explanation.
Make sure to leave enough free space on paper for next steps. You can see how much space you will need from the size of the paper on this picture.
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Step 5
Step 6
Step 7
Step 8
Step 9
Lighten all the construction lines by "stamping" the kneaded eraser on the paper. Make sure to refer to the picture bellow as you need to ink only some parts of the construction lines.
Step 10
Wait till the ink is nice and dry and erase all the construction lines.
Step 11
To add colors, make sure to sketch the color outlines with the right color or pencil first.
If your goal is to become a real Mangaka and design your own manga characters make sure to try to draw Joseph Joestar from memory several times. Always compare the drawing to the original and correct any mistakes you see. Do this till you are happy with the result. It doesn't have to look exactly the same, don't sweat the details. The point is that you get the main shapes right and that it looks good. This is the best way to build a huge library of manga shapes in your memory that you can use to draw and design your own manga characters ^_-.
Draw with passion! ^_^
